Experimental Study on Effects of Chloramphenicol to Parenchymatous Organs

Abstract
The author gave 250 mg/kg and 50mg/kg of chloramphenicol to rabbits daily for 15 days intramuscularly to investigate the effects of chloramphenicol to body weight and parenchymatous organs.
1. The group ¥° which were given 250 mg/kg of chloramphenicol showed weight losss in all cases and group ¥± which were given 50mg/kg of chloramphenicol also revealed tendency of weight loss in most of cases, but the former was more marked than the latter in weight loss.
2. The liver showed histological findings of glycogen depression, cloudy swelling and hydropic degeration. The first and last findings were more distinct in group ¥°.
3. The outstanding characteristic findings of spleen were disappearances of germinal centers of lymph follicles which were replaces by lymphcytes and were more prominent in group ¥°.
In one case, the atrophy of lymph fillicle was noted.
4. In bone marrow, the tendency of depression of granulocytes and increased number of lymphoid cells were recognized.
5. The kidney and adrenal gland showed noabnormality.
